Owner Heather Jeanblanc email address: heather@elegius.net Ms Ans Beer-Schell, owner of Kennel frį Žyturstašir always told me that an Iceland Dog is a Polar Dog. To this day that has made such an impression on me that I decided to name my Kennel, Heimskauts Hundur Kennel. This is special to me because it translates from Icelandic the words Polar Dog Kennel! It is more exciting because my first litter had a little polar dog! Her name is Bjork, in honor of a special dog breed by Ans many years ago.
The Icelandic Sheepdog is a Polar Dog. The AKC as well as other kennel clubs list the Icelandic Sheepdog under the Spitz group. There are less than 900 Icelandic sheepdogs in the United States today and I am proud to be among a small number of breeders focused on the preservation and protection of this lovely dog. When 9/11 happened I was working in downtown San Francisco and my boyfriend at the time was living in downtown San Francisco. International flights were very inexpensive and we thought it would be safer to travel to Europe than to stay in the City. We went to Amsterdam for a short trip and on the way back we ended up on a flight with a couple that was returning with an Icelandic Sheepdog. I fell in love with that pup! In 2002 I was blessed with an introduction to Ms. Ans Beer-Schell who has been breeding Icelandic Sheepdogs for over 20 years in Holland. She said she would consider me for a pup but I would not know until Tibra frį Žyturstašir gave birth AND Ans met me in person. This is Champion Icelandic Sheepdog Tibra frį Žyturstašir. See photos of her pedigree by clicking here: Tibra Pedigree Family Photo Tree
Tibra became C.A.C. that is "Excellent" and B.O.B.
that is Best or Breed, that is the best Icelanddog of the exhibition.
It was an exhibition of the Raad van Beheer
himself, and the examiner was an allrounder, director of the Raad van Beheer,
Mr.Van der Weyer. The Exhibition was Outdoor Uden 2002
Ana Camptis China Joes, father of Gledi and Kaepa -- Ana Camptis China Joes Photo Pedigree Tree So it began.... a three week trip to Europe starting with a stop at Kennel frį Žyturstašir, home of Ans and ending with two sweet female puppies. The girls joined my family with two older siblings. Cash and Debit are two rescue dogs that were adopted just prior to finding Ans. At the time I did not understand the significance of this event. I was not aware of the fact that Ms. Ans Beer was known around the world for her huge contribution to the breed and her ability to breed the most beautiful and healthy dogs. I am now very proud to not only have two of her females but her last two females. I am fortunate to have her as my friend and mentor. Other Information and Links -- LOTS OF GOOD STUFF!!
